March 18, 2011 - Detroit, MI - The Ford Motor Company has announced a recall of more than 31,000 vehicles in 2 separate announcements earlier this month.

Reuters reports that the vehicle recall affects 2 of Ford's popular vehicle types - the crossover and pickup trucks. Reports were submitted to the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration to address the issues and begin the process to repair the defective vehicles.

The first vehicle recall addresses a fuel line problem that could result in leaking of gasoline. It was found that a protective layer of the fuel line was not properly installed in an estimated 23,688 models of Ford Ranger trucks. The models affected include 2010 F-150, F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 trucks built between October 2009 and May 2010 at the Twin Cities Assembly Plant.

The other vehicle recall is in regards to the Ford Edge crossover and the Lincoln MKX crossover, both of which are suspected to have risk of a short in their electrical system that could prompt a vehicle fire. The model year 2011 vehicle recall includes up to 8,022 units. Owners of defective vehicles should receive notice from the manufacturer with instructions on how to obtain a free repair of their vehicle.

In recent years, many vehicle manufacturers have issued vehicle recalls for numerous manufacturing issues and dangerous design flaws. Several serious or fatal car accidents have been blamed on these defects, leading to complex lawsuits and legal battles.
