June 9 2011 - About 2.3 million power tools that are used outside in the yard are being recalled for potential risks of a fire hazard.

Stihl Inc., based in Virginia, is recalling the power tools for a defect in the fuel caps.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission reports that the amount of ethanol combined with other fuel additives can cause the cap to come loose resulting in a gas spill.

There have been no reports of injuries resulting from the defective fuel caps but more than 80 complaints have been made about the fuel caps on Stihl's outside power tools.

Tools that are included in the massive Stihl power tool recall include:

  • gas-powered trimmers;
  • brush cutters;
  • KombiMotors;
  • hedge trimmers;
  • edgers;
  • clearing saws;
  • pole pruners; and
  • backpack blowers
