Missouri's new Speaker of the House is Tim Jones, a Republican from Eureka. Mr.Jones is an attorney and he vows to make changes to several areas of law, including medical malpractice, employment discrimination and the workers' compensation system.  With respect to Missouri's workers' compensation system, he urges lawmakers to find a solution to the nearly insolvent Second Injury Fund.  The Fund has run into trouble because in 2005, the legislature passed a law that capped employer's contributions to the Fund.  A bill has been filed in the Senate that would temporarily increase the funding of the Second Injury Fund to address its outstanding obligations on awards that have already been obtained, but not yet paid.  However, that bill would limit future claims.
