Palo Alto, CA - The Hewlett-Packard Company has expanded its recall of notebook computer batteries for a third time due to a fire and burn hazard from the defective product.
Additional models were added to the recall after HP received 40 reports that the lithium-ion batteries used in the laptops had overheated while in use and ruptured, causing 7 burns, 1 instance of a smoke inhalation injury, and 36 reports of property damage.
The model numbers of the notebook computers containing the recalled batteries are:
- HP Pavilion dv2000, dv2500, dv2700, dv6000, dv6500,
dv6700,dx6000, dx6500, dx6700, dv9000, dv9500, dv9700; - Compaq Presario A900, C700, F500, F700, V3000, V3500, V3700, V6000, V6500, V6700;
- HP G6000 and G7000; and
- HP Compaq 6510b, 6515b, 6710b, 6710s, 6715b, 6715s, 6520s, 6720s.
The notebook computers containing the batteries were sold at electronics retailers nationwide, as well as HP's online retail portals, hp.com, and hpshopping.com. The laptops that used the batteries were sold from July 2007 to July 2008 and ranged from about $500 to $3,000. The battery packs were sold separately for $100 to $160.
Consumers of the named products are advised to immediately remove battery packs from the laptop and contact HP for a free replacement battery at (888) 202-4320.
