The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration listed the Yamaha Motor Corporation's recall of several model years of its popular FJR1300 motorcycle. If you have encountered problems with your motorcycle and you think it is defective, call a Missouri defective product lawyer.

Yamaha announced the recall on June 24, 2011, and indicated it would affect approximately 9,850 units of models from years 2006-2009, manufactured between February 2006 and March 2009.

According to Yamaha, who voluntarily recalled the motorcycles, the ground joint connector of the FJR1300's wire harness can overheat and become deformed. The deformity could cause inconsistent ground wire connectivity. In the case of intermittent connectivity of the electrical system, the ignition and possibly other electrical components might malfunction.

As a result of an electrical malfunction, the engine itself might stall, which could lead to a collision resulting in injury or death.

To remedy the defective product, Yamaha has agreed to install an additional wire sub-lead to the ground joint connector or, if it has already been damaged, install a new harness for the main wire.
The safety recall is expected to begin during the month of July.
