Horizon Hobby, an Illinois importer, has recalled 3 models of its toy helicopters, the U.S. Consumer Safety Product Commission has reported. Horizon Hobby has received 312 complaints about the rotor blades detaching from the helicopters while in motion.

In the event the rotor blades come loose and fly off the helicopter while in flight, they can cause serious injuries. In fact, Horizon Hobby has received reports of rotor blades causing gashes and cuts to bystanders.

The recalled toy helicopters are:
 

  • Blade Mcp  X  Bind-N-Fly Helicopter, model number BLH3580;
  • Ready to Fly Remote Control Helicopter, model number BLH3500; and
  • Blade Mcp X Main Blade Grips with Bearings, model number BLH3514. 

Consumers are advised to contact Horizon Hobby for a free replacement of rotor grips by calling 1-877-504-0233.
