April 18, 2011 - A recall announced March 1st may help protect your family from exposure to carbon monoxide.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the voluntary recall of about 3,200 Lennox Shawdowdance Natural Gas Log Set Burner Assemblies due to a risk of developing cracks at the gas valve connection. This can create a leak of carbon monoxide gas, which can be toxic in large quantities or poorly ventilated areas.
Lennox Hearth Products LLC. manufactured the defective product and has alerted fireplace and HVAC retailers and installers who sold the units between August 2007 and December 2010. Consumers who purchased a gas log burner assembly between these dates should check the model number to see if they have an affected unit.
The model numbers under the recall are:
- LSVFSD-18;
- LSVFSD-24;
- LSVFSD-30; and
- LSVFSD-NG (replacement burner).
The defective burners have serial numbers beginning with 6407, 6408, and 6410A through 6410G.
So far Lennox has received reports of 20 defective products with cracks that caused gas leaks. Fortunately, no injuries or deaths have been reported.
