Due to a product defect, Continental Tire the Americas, LLC announced a recall of 390,657 units of certain ContiTrac tires, both those sold as aftermarket and those installed as original equipment on certain model year 2008 and 2009 Ford F-250 and F-350 pick-up trucks.

The tires affected by the recall are as follows:

  • Continental ContiTrac with black sidewall; size LT275/70R18 125/122S;
  • Continental ContiTrac TR BSW with outline white letters and black sidewall; size LT275/70R18 125/122S; and
  • Continental ContiTrac TR OWL with outline white letters and black sidewall; size LT275/70R18 125/122S.

According to Continental, these tires' tread may wear unevenly. Their tread may also separate due to high vibration or temperature. Especially dangerous are tires that are either overloaded or underinflated. All of these conditions may increase the risk of collision.

Continental Tire began notifying owners of the recall on April 14, 2011. To remedy this situation, Continental has offered to replace the tires free of charge.

Consumers will receive tires of the same specifications which have been tested and determined to be free of the defect that affected the recalled tires. Owners of these tires may contact Continental customer service at 1-888-799-2168.
