August 25, 2011 - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) publicized Phil&Ted's recall of their Metoo Clip-on chair for children due to missing or worn down clamp pads that could result in serious injuries. Phil&Ted's is recalling 54,000 Metoo clip-on highchairs with missing or damaged clamp pads that allow the chairs to easily detach, increasing the risk of falls.
The chairs being recalled, which were designed to clamp onto tables using a pair of metal vise clamps, are missing the black spacers that are meant to be positioned between the bar and the clamps.
Additionally, children's fingers can get wedged between the bar and clamping device, which creates an amputation hazard. Another factor in the recall is the inadequacy of the manufacturer's user instructions, which may lead to consumer misuse.
The chairs being recalled were manufactured in China and sold between May 2006 and May 2011. To date, 19 cases of injury have been reported to the CPSC, and consumers are advised to stop using the product immediately.
