The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced a recall of nearly 30,000 jogging strollers manufactured by phil&teds USA Inc. after multiple reports of injuries and one report of a finger amputation. A similar defective product recall is taking place in Canada.

According to consumer safety advocates, the jogging strollers have sharp and uncovered hinges that can cause cuts, lacerations, bruises, and other injuries when consumers open or close the strollers. This dangerous stroller recall follows several large stroller recalls last year, all of which involved cut and amputation risks due to dangerous hinges. In those recalls, millions of strollers owners were affected and dozens of users reported injuries related to dangerous and sharp hinges.

The CPSC has asked that all parents that own the phil&teds jogging strollers immediately stop using the product and contact the manufacturer to receive a repair kit. The repair kit, which includes hinge covers, will prevent future injuries.

The jogging strollers were made in China and sold in Northern America between May 2008 and July 2009 for $350 and $450.

In another recent dangerous stroller recall, Graco Children’s Products recalled 2 million strollers after it confirmed that four infants died of strangulation while using their products and five other babies who were serious injured in the baby carriages. The company warned that young children especially could become trapped between the stroller tray and seat bottom if they were not strapped in correctly.
