The Wall Street Journal reported Ducati North America is recalling model year 2011 Diavel motorcycles, manufactured between September 23, 2010, and May 12, 2011, for a license plate holder hazard that might interfere with normal operation.
According to a report issued by Ducati and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the brass inserts on the chain guard may become deformed over time, which could result in the license plate holder possibly becoming loose or falling off.
If the license plate holder becomes loose, it might swing and interfere with the motorcycle's rear tire rotation, increasing the threat and likelihood of an accident.
The company stated that 964 motorcycles are named in the recall. Ducati recalled more than 700 of the Multistrada models, in April, over complications with the "smart keys" and 3,911, in January, due to fuel leaks because of a bad gas tank seal.
Owners should contact Ducati at 1-800-231-6696. Ducati dealers will replace the faulty chain guard with a newer version that has been produced with steel inserts instead of brass ones. The replacement service and the updated equipment will be provided free of charge. Owners, of the bike, may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at 1-888-327-4236.
