May 3, 2011 - A voluntary recall of nearly 9,000 Disney Princess Plastic Racing Trikes has been issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Kiddieland Toys Limited.

On April 21st, about 9,000 plastic tricycles manufactured by Kiddieland Toys Limited were announced to pose a potential laceration hazard due to the plastic figurines on the handlebars. The princess figures and castle are hard plastic and protrude from the handlebars, posing a laceration hazard to a child's face if they fall on it.

The hazardous tricycles were sold at Target, JCPenney, Meijer, and H.E.B. stores nationwide, as well as through the Target.com website. This model was available from January 2009 up until this recall was issued.

There have been reports of 3 laceration injuries due to this hazard and Kiddieland Toys Limited has asked consumers to immediately discontinue use. A free replacement handlebar with a dome enclosing the figures may be obtained by contacting their consumer hotline at 800-430-5307 or visiting their website www.kiddieland.com.hk.

The
design and production of children's' products takes additional effort and consideration due to the nature of the user. Children are often much less aware of their personal safety and potential hazards when using toys or other products designed for child use. Manufacturers must be diligent of the rougher treatment children's products go through and design their goods accordingly to minimize risk of injury.

If your child has suffered serious injury from a dangerous or defective child product you should contact a St. Louis defective product attorney immediately to discuss your case.
