Phil Tatlow and Jeff Herman are in Branson on June 12, 2015, speaking to attorneys from across the state at the Missouri Bar's Solo and Small Firm Conference. Their topic is entitled, "Identifying ERISA Issues in your Non-ERISA Practice."  Phil and Jeff have extensive experience at both the administrative level and in federal court appealing the denial of long term disability benefits, life insurance and accidental death benefits under The Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA).  The ERISA law is a very technical statute that applies to all kinds of employer-sponsored  benefits, including, but not limitied to, health insurance, retirement plans and disability insurance plans.  Although Phil and Jeff deal with the ERISA statute on a daily basis because they handle ERISA appeals, attorneys in other areas of practice may also run across issues relating to ERISA that they may not even know exist.  Phil and Jeff are hoping that their talk helps lawyers to spot ERISA issues and pitfalls in their non-ERISA practices so that they can avoid malpratice and provide meaningful advice to their own clients.
