In a letter to Governor Jay Nixon, Missouri Supreme Court Justice William Ray Price, Jr. is resigning from the Missouri Supreme Court, effective August 1, 2012.  Judge Price has been on the Supreme Court bench longer than any other judge.  In his letter, Judge Price indicated that he wanted his successor to be chosen by the current non-partisan court plan "that has served our state so well over the past 70 years."  Judge Price's decision seems to be linked to an upcoming ballot measure that will change the current way that judges are chosen in this state to give sitting governors more control over the nominating process.  It is obvious from his letter that he does not agree with the proposed changes to the plan.  Justice Price was appointed by Republican Governor John Ashcroft in 1992.
