November 29, 2011 – In a report from the American Heart Association (AHA), serious risks are lowered for patients with acute coronary syndrome who are taking an anti-clotting drug. Disability benefits could be available if you suffer from a serious heart condition.
New research indicates that the risk of:
- heart attack;
- stroke; and
- death are reduced in patients with acute coronary syndrome when, in addition to their standard treatment, they also take rivaroxaban (an anti-clotting medication).
Acute coronary syndrome describes conditions related to an unstable angina, which can lead to chest pain and heart attack. The risk of complications can be reduced by 16 percent when taking this anti-clotting drug, in comparison to those patients who don’t. Additionally, the risk of all causes of death was lowered more than 30 percent.
While anti-clotting medication has been found to be helpful with patients who have atrial fibrillation, results for those with acute coronary syndrome hasn’t been as consistent until this latest research.
