On March 16, 2012, Governor Jay Nixon vetoed the latest attempt by the Missouri legislature to further limit workers' rights under the Missouri workers' compensation law.  Senate Bill 572 would have taken away a workers' ability to file a claim for an occupational disease in circuit court.  It would have further limited employees by requiring an employee's court action to be "stayed," or put on hold, until their claim was fully litigated in the Missouri workers' compensation system.  Governor Nixon saw the danger to injured workers in such changes and, therefore, vetoed the bill.  It is not believed that the Senate will have enough votes to override the veto and, therefore, it is likely that SB 527 will be history.
