Dorel Juvenile Group (DJG) has announced that they will be recalling certain models of their booster, convertible, and infant child restraint systems. The systems, which have been sold as stand-alone seats and as part of a travel kit with stroller, have been reported to have defects with their harness locking mechanism.
The harness, which is supposed to lock and release when a button is pressed, is sometimes resistant in returning to a locked position. Failure to return to the locked position might allow for the harness adjustment strap to loosen and slip if a child moves around in the seat.
A loosened harness, in the event of a car accident, may not adequately protect a child the way the equipment was intended to in the event of a collision. As a result of a loosened harness, a child may be at increased risk for injury or ejection from the vehicle.
Dorel first reported the product defect on February 10, 2011. The recall will affect 794,247 units.
Registered owners of the units affected will be given a remedy kit with non-toxic, food-grade lubricant that can be placed on the center front adjuster to prevent further sticking. Non-registered owners should contact Dorel directly at 1-866-623-3139.
