Washington, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced that EKSuccess, a division of Wilton Brands Inc. of Illinois, is voluntarily recalling about 75,000 units of one of its American Girl Crafts jewelry kits, the Pearly Beads & Ribbon Bracelets kit.

The CPSC has cited a dangerously high amount of lead-based paint on the coating of the colored beads in violation of federal law as the reason behind the recall.

The Pearly Beads & Ribbon Bracelets kit contains 56 pieces consisting of blue, orange, pink, and white beads and blue, orange, purple, and red ribbons. It was manufactured in China and sold, for about $8, at several national retailers in the United States, including Michaels Stores, from September of 2009 through June of 2011.

No reports of injury or illness resulting from the use of this defective product were received by EKSuccess Brands or the CSPC, but since the effects of excessive lead exposure are not immediately apparent, there is additional cause for concern and vigilance.

The CPSC urges consumers to take the kits, as well as any bracelets made with materials from the kit, away from children and contact EKSuccess Brands at (855) 535-2099 for a full refund.
