P.B. was a beer bottler for 31 years at Anheuser Busch before retirement. He alleged that he stopped work earlier than he would have because of a combination of health problems that prevented him from working as a beer bottler anymore. Mr. B had a life insurance policy while an employee at Anheuser Busch that was underwritten by Prudential Insurance Company of America. It contained a provision that if an individual became disabled under the terms of the plan, that the insurance company would have to pay the person a lump sum of money or monthly benefits as long as the individual was disabled. The plan fell under Federal ERISA law and was administered out of Prudential's New Jersey offices. Mr. Tatlow handled the administrative procedures and claims process and obtained the full amount of the Insurance policy benefit prior to filing an action in Federal Court. With Phil Tatlow's help, Mr. B obtained the maximum policy limits available of $100,000 prior to having to file a lawsuit.
