Tragedy struck the West Fertilizer Plant in West, Texas last week, causing more than 200 injuries and deaths. Many, if not most, of the victims were injured while on the job. Sadly, these folks may have a battle ahead of them for their benefits, as the state of Texas has one of the most anti-employee workers' compensation systems in the country. The above article, written in 2011, gives a very detailed account of the way in which the Texas workers' compensation system has had very adverse effects on the injured workers of Texas. This author hopes that these injured workers will be treated fairly, but is not hopeful.
